About Us : Ski and Tennis Shop - White Stone Harrogate

White Stone is a specialist ski and tennis boutique store located in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

The store opened for business in November 2006 and our website went online in April 2008.

The store is owned by ex British Ski Team Assistant Coach Jonathan McGuinness and wife Nicola.

Jonathan’s 28 years experience including 4years with the British Ski Team means you can be sure you’re getting the best sound technical advice. He started skiing at the Harrogate Dry Ski Slope in 1981 in preperation for a school trip and became hooked from there. After joining the club Jonathan participated in ski racing and freestyle skiing and on leaving school became a full time ski instructor at the club. Jonathans Tennis and Squash experience comes from playing at a very early age (In Nappies) with his Dad. After retiring from squash at the age of 4 he became more intersted in tennis. At school he competed every year and in 1985 made it to the Midland Bank National School finals at the Queens Club in London. During his time with the British Ski Team he took his rackets around the alps and has played in many ski resorts around the world. He currently plays for Ripon Tennis Center in the Harrogate and District Tennis League.

If your tennis club would like a demonstration session of our tennis rackets and are local to Harrogate please contact Jonathan to arrange a suitable date. These sessions allow you to try many rackets and gives Jonathan the chance to look at your swing and advise you on the best tennis racket to suit your game. A speed gun is also used to measure how fast your serve is!

Nicola is our clothing buyer and uses her fashion experience to put together some great collections in Ski, Tennis and Lifestyle clothing.

After leaving school Nicola became an actress after attending 'The Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art' in London. After appearing in a few well known soaps such as Heartbeat, Emmerdale and even Byker Grove she became a full time Mum to three. Nicola's fashion experience comes from working for Escada in Harrogate for a few years. Escada's high standards and training has given Nicola the experience to put together great collections each season and if you would like a personal fitting service from Nicola please contact the store to make sure she is available.

Master Ski Boot Fitter and Ski Technician

Stephen is our Master Ski Boot Fitter, Ski Workshop Tecnician and Equipment buyer / ski tester.

Stephen has worked in the ski industry since University after being involved in ski racing and instructing from a very early age. For 12 years he worked as an Assistant Store Manager for a well known national store and during this time provided ski boot fitting and workshop training to the groups staff.. He is one of the best in the business and with both Stephen and Jonathan fitting ski boots you will have one of the most experienced fitting service in the UK.
